3 Days In Austin: What To See and Do

I just got back from a quick family vacation to Austin, Texas. My family was there an entire week, but I only had three days (thanks to my work schedule). Over the three days, I discovered that Austin was a cultural city full of casual restaurants, outdoor dining, chill bars, and live music. If you’re heading to Austin for a weekend, I rounded up my top five things I did on my trip in the “Live Music Capital of the World”

  1. Austin City Limits: Austin is known as the "Live Music Capital of the World,” because there are so many venues and many bands playing pretty much every night. You can check out one of the classic venue or try and get tickets to Austin City Limits. I was lucky enough to get tickets and go backstage to see Miguel for the live taping from my friend. IT WAS AMAZING! I dragged my mom and uncle to the show with me, having never heard of him. After the show, they agreed he was a fantastic performer.

2. Find the Art: The city is filled with street art and wall murals everywhere you turn. You can check out Hope Outdoor Gallery, which is one of the largest outdoor art galleries in the U.S.

3. Head to the Lake: There are so many lakes to choose from surrounding Austin. We chose to stay in Lake Travis, because we wanted to do a lot of water sports. We actually stayed right on the water and we rented a boat for skiing, tubing, and relaxing! If you are in the area and hungry, you should check out the “Gnarly Gar” Restaurant on the water.

4. Shopping Downtown: We started on Second Street and popped into all the unique boutiques along the way.

5. Food: Welcome to the land of meat and tacos! We ate so much Tex-Mex and tacos in downtown. We also got a chocolate covered Popsicle at Popbar
